Coker split Friday’s series opening double header against Emory & Henry at Porterfield-DeVault Field. The Cobras took game one, 12-6, and dropped the second game, 8-4.

EMORY, Va. – Coker University baseball split Friday's series opening double header against Emory & Henry at Porterfield-DeVault Field. The Cobras took game one, 12-6, and dropped the second game, 8-4.

Luke Alford and Peter Adams each had three hits in the opening game.

Alford's three hits all went for extra bases with a pair of doubles and a home run. It marked his fourth HR of the season and ninth his career. He also now has six doubles this season.

Seven Cobras recorded multi-hit games in the opener and eight of the starting nine had at least one hit.

Wyatt Tucker tossed the final 3.2 innings of the opener and earned his first win of the season and his second career victory.

Colton Penner recorded at least one hit in both games and has hit safely in four straight games.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1
Coker trailed 4-1 after Emory & Henry plated four runs in the fourth inning, but the Cobras chipped away and cut the deficit to 4-3 with RBI hits from Dimitri Sabino and Elijah Jordan that scored Colten Penner and Gavin Johnson, respectively.
The Wasps added another run before Luke Alford belted his fourth home run of the season in the seventh inning to pull Coker within one at 5-4. Emory & Henry answered with a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh to extend its lead, but Coker added a run in the eighth when Sabino scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Barak Boston.
That set the stage for the ninth inning, where Coker sent 10 batters to the plate and erupted for seven runs to take control. The Cobras opened the frame with five straight singles and a sacrifice fly that produced the first three runs of the inning. Matthew Lipcsey, Penner, Johnson, Sabino, Jordan, Boston and Gavin Edens all crossed the plate, while Sabino, Jordan, Peter Adams, Boston and Alford each recorded an RBI during the rally.
Game 2
Emory & Henry built an 8-0 lead with runs in the second, third and sixth innings before Coker broke through with four runs in the top of the seventh. The Cobras continued to pressure plate, but left the bases loaded when the final out was recorded.
