Coker Sweeps Newberry on the Road
Edoardo Pilia clinched the match for the Cobras to move to 5-5 with one match left in the regular season.
Newberry, S.C.: The Cobras are one step closer to clinching postseason action after they defeated Newberry College this afternoon, 4-0, to go 5-5 in conference play.
Performances Around the Courts:
- Doubles Play
- Marcio Silva and Lucas Melone took up the first doubles position, going unfinished up in the set 5-4.
- Marko Pozonec and Edoardo Pilia made the move up to 2nd doubles for the first time this year, winning in a dominant 6-1 match to clinch the doubles point for the Cobras.
- 3rd doubles saw a new pairing for the Cobras this season, with Andy Huynh and Joao Casas Moreira starting off their new partnership strong in a 6-0 win.
- Singles Play
- Marcio Silva returned to the Singles line-up for the Cobras today. Silva took the first set with a final score of 6-4 and went unfinished in the 2nd set up 3-2.
- Edoardo Pilia took up the 2nd singles position today, winning in straight sets and clinching the match for the Cobras with a score of 6-3, 6-0.
- Lucas Melone dropped down to 3rd doubles today against the Wolves in a good outing, winning the first set 7-5 and going unfinished in the second set up 2-1.
- Marko Pozonec continued his winning form in the 4th singles position, winning in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
- Andy Huynh had the most dominant day on the courts for the Cobras, winning 6-0, 6-1. Huynh only dropped 1 game on the day in doubles and singles play.
- Sharif Vossen took up the 6th singles spot for the Cobras, winning the first set 6-3, then going unfinished in the 2nd set, down 4-3.
What's Next?
Coker will be welcoming the Wasps of Emory and Henry in the Cobras final regular-season match of the year. Prior to the start of warm-ups will be the Cobras Senior Day Ceremony, where we will recognize Andy Huynh, the lone Senior of the Coker Men's Tennis Team.
