WASSWA EARNS CALL-UP FOR UGANDAN NATIONAL TEAM
THE FORMER COKER STAR WILL BEGIN HER JOURNEY THIS MONDAY
Hartsville, SC - As recently announced by the team, recent Coker graduate Mya Wasswa will represent the country of Uganda at the upcoming FIBA Women's AfroBasket in Côte d'Ivoire!
Wasswa will depart on Monday for Egypt to participate in training camp and scrimmages. The team will be in Egypt until July 26th, when they will make the trek to Côte d'Ivoire for the tournament. Their first game will be played on the 27th, as they will take on Guinea in Group C action, looking to start the tournament on the right foot.
The tournament will last until August 3rd and consists of twelve teams separated into four groups of three teams each. As stated previously, Uganda is in Group C, which also consists of Guinea and Senegal. After their game on the 27th against Guinea, they will then face off against Senegal on the 28th. Both of those games will be at 12:00 PM GMT (8:00 AM ET) and can be streamed on HBO Max. If they are in one of the top two spots in the group, they will move on to the single-elimination part of the tournament, beginning with the quarterfinals on June 30th.
Wasswa had a stellar career for Coker Women's Basketball, including a fantastic senior campaign where she was named Second-Team All-SAC, All-SAC Tournament Team, and the All-Southeast Region Tournament Team. She scored her 1000th career point in their upset win in the Regional Final over North Georgia and helped lead the Cobras to a 29-6 record last season. We wish her the best of luck as she represents Uganda at the highest level!
