Thompson Lifts Coker over Wingate in SAC Tournament

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Junior forward Kamari Thompson scored 19 points and pulled down 18 rebounds to lead the 20th-ranked and third-seeded Coker University women's basketball team to a 60-42 victory over the No. 6 seed Wingate on Thursday afternoon in the opening round of the South Atlantic Conference Tournament held inside the Rock Hill Sports and Events Center.
Thompson's performance marked her sixth double double of the season, while senior guard Kristynn Knight added 12 points and seven rebounds in the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Ja'Kea Brunson's jumper with 6:42 remaining in the first quarter gave Coker a 6-5 lead, one the Cobras would not relinquish the rest of the way. Coker led 16-12 at the end of the opening quarter and held a 27-19 advantage at halftime.
Wingate battled back in the third quarter and cut the deficit to three, 33-30, with under a minute remaining in the period. Coker responded by scoring the first six points of the fourth quarter to create separation and held off the Bulldogs down the stretch to advance to the semifinals.

Coker advances to face No. 2 seed Lincoln Memorial in the semifinal round of the SAC Tournament on Friday at 2:30PM inside the Rock Hill Sports & Event Center, in Rock Hill, S.C.
