WOMEN'S TENNIS PUTS THREE COBRAS ON ALL-CONFERENCE LISTS
BELLEGY AND BANNING EARN FIRST-TEAM HONORS, HERNANDEZ-SANCHEZ NAMED SAC FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR
Rock Hill, SC - It has been a great season for Women's Tennis! In recognition of this, the South Atlantic Conference has named Jade Bellegy (1st Team Singles & Doubles), Emerson Banning (1st Team Doubles), and Ilona Hernandez-Sanchez (SAC Freshman of the Year) to their respective conference awards!
Bellegy - 1st Team Singles
Bellegy has had a stunning final season of competition, going 15-2 (10-1 SAC) in singles and 13-5 (8-3 SAC) in doubles for a 28-7 (18-4 SAC) total record. She has not recorded a singles loss since March 6th, maintaining dominant form by not dropping a single set during that time. Her stability at the one spot has provided the Cobras a pillar that they are looking forward to leaning on going into the SAC Playoffs and (hopefully) beyond. Her key wins include a dominant straight-sets victory over Catawba, a straight sets win against #32 Newberry, and another dominant straight-sets victory over Carson-Newman. She was named Second-Team All-SAC in Singles Preseason and First-Team All-SAC in Doubles Preseason.
Banning and Bellegy - 1st Team Doubles
The pairing went 13-5 overall and 8-3 in conference at the first doubles position, with key wins coming against Anderson, Carson-Newman, and Newberry. They were named Preseason First-Team in Doubles in the conference and have lived up to it with their play this season.
Hernandez-Sanchez - SAC Freshman of the Year
Hernandez-Sanchez has played the number two spot for the Cobras as just a freshman and recorded great results that have helped the Cobras tremendously. Hernandez-Sanchez was 10-5 (5-3 SAC) in singles and 7-4 (4-2 SAC) in doubles with Tamara Macias. She was the lone team point against Wingate, earning a dominant 6-3, 6-2 win at the second singles spot. She has also earned straight-set victories to help propel the Cobras in 4-3 wins over Lenoir-Rhyne and #32 Newberry. She has been the true difference between not making the tournament last year to being a SAC contender this season.
